Electropolishing is the reverse of electroplating and used to remove and smooth a very thin layer of material on the surface of the part or system. The electropolishing process is used to prepare a new component for service or to repair an in-service component or system.
Although grinding can produce a similar high polish surface, it will likely have a negative effect on the metallurgical properties and will leave contaminants behind. Electropolishing leaves the surface with a high luster passivated surface with no negative affect on metallurdical properties.
In high purity industries such as bio-genetic, pharmaceutical and semiconductor an electropolished surface, such as those created by trained Hydrosol System technicians, will yield an improvement of surface finish of up to 50% as well as eliminate surface contaminants which result in increased corrosion potential or cross contamination of in-process products in the most critical applications.
Hydrosol System electropolishes to the appropriate ASTM standards. Hydrosol is equipped to perform electropolishing to three (3) specific grades dependent on customer requirements. A Hydrosol Engineer will visit your facility and create a customized Eletropolishing repair or new construction polishing plan. Our plan will be deliberately designed to meet the specific needs of each customer and application. A crew will mobilize during the agreed upon time and at either our facility or yours to complete the work. All completed projects are completed with an electropolishing turnover report which includes project details which include surface profilometer results and passivation verification to validate component surface quality.
